Model the player data and its authority
Backend architecture begins with the state the game needs to trust and preserve. Accounts, inventories, progression, purchases and cloud saves require clear ownership and consistency rules. The client application should not be the sole authority for valuable shared outcomes.
The design specifies service boundaries, authentication, authorisation and failure behaviour. APIs are defined around meaningful operations rather than exposing database structures directly to every consumer.
Plan for realistic demand
Infrastructure planning uses scenarios for concurrent players, session patterns, data volume and regional needs. Managed services and custom systems can be compared against those scenarios. A selected cloud provider is not itself evidence of scalability or reliability.
Load testing, observability and cost monitoring help validate the plan. Deployment automation, environment separation and credential handling belong in the production scope. Recovery and rollback procedures should be testable.
Give operations the tools they need
Admin dashboards can support content management, player support and investigation with appropriate access controls. Logging should avoid unnecessary sensitive information. Data retention, backups and export needs are defined alongside service ownership.
A backend enquiry should include the online features, existing systems, expected demand and any regional or procurement constraints. If those are uncertain, an architecture assessment can identify the decisions that most affect cost and delivery.
Planning your engagement
What should we include in an initial brief?
Describe the intended audience, core player experience, target platforms, reference games, available IP or code, budget range and launch priorities. Identify the requirements that are fixed and those you want us to help resolve. We use this to determine the next scoping decisions.
What is included in the production proposal?
The proposal records the agreed scope, assumptions, deliverables, milestones, dependencies, review process and commercial terms. Source access, IP rights, third-party costs and post-launch responsibilities are defined for the specific engagement. Submitting an enquiry does not order paid work.
